Literally meaning ¨The Piazza of the People¨, is a famous square in Rome. Before the world was introduced to railroads, The Popolo Piazza served as a traveler’s first view of Rome upon arrival. What would surprise most people is that The Popolo Piazza was a place where public executions were held.

It is also here that you can find one of the tallest obelisks found in Rome. To give you an idea of how old this obelisk is, it was first brought to Rome in 10 B.C. The obelisk is known as ¨ Obelisco Flaminio.¨

Furthermore, the Popolo Plaza is ideally situated at the foot of the Pincio, as part of the city’s Baroque renovation in an effort to modernize routes frequently traveled by the upper classes. The Popolo square is also decorated with richly sculptured fountains that can be found at the far end of the square. The fountains represent the four seasons. There are also two twin churches that can be found. Their names are Santa Maria de Montesanto and Santa Maria dei Miracoli, both of these churches are excellent examples of Baroque architecture.
